The husband and wife team, David Gilberg and Carla Gonçalves, are creating KOO ZEE DOO as an homage to Carla’s Portuguese heritage. Though Carla spent her first 8 years in Portugal, she mostly identifies with Portuguese cuisine through her mother’s superb home cooking in the States.
David has been buzzing around the Philadelphia restaurant scene for the last 8 years. The two have worked together at Matyson, Loie, Coquette, and the Ugly American.
With frequent visits to Carla’s parents’ house and a few to Carla’s hometown in Portugal, David’s interest in the flavors of Portugal was kindled. He has married those experiences with his practice in professional kitchens to bring KOO ZEE DOO to Philadelphia.
